I currently have the GX2100 radio with the integrated AIS receiver. I have connected it to the PC plotter and works very well; during longer navigations the PC is switched off, the radio has an integrated alarm for CPA/TCPA which is loud enough so everything is fine.
I would like to add an AIS Transceiver, I was looking at the Advansea TR-200. It will have its own separate antenna.
What happens if I use the transceiver together with the AIS receiver on the radio ? Will the receiver ring the alarm all the time ?
There does not seem to be any means of "filtering" AIS targets on the GX2100.
Should I turn the AIS RX off, then I would remain without alarm as the Advansea AIS Transceiver relies on the PC Plotter for CPA computation and alarm, and I do not want to sail with the PC on.
Are there other models of AIS TXR which are capable of stand-alone alarms ?
I would accept having a system sending out my position and just ringing an alarm if a ship is near, even without displaying it on a plotter.
thanks
