AIS Question

My AIS does not show other vessels name only MMSI number. Apparently same for receiving vessels. Mine is a Vespa. Is this a set up issue ?
Class A vessels are not a problem.!!
Any ideas.

Names for class B vessels are transmitted only infrequently. Maybe you need to wait longer.

As above. Also check your MFD, some (like my Simrads) have a menu setting for MMSI or name display.

With mine you have to click on the vessel, which will bring up the full information and some choices, such as whether I want to make it a buddy. As in #2, often the full information doesn’t come up for a minute or so. Without choosing the target I only get small windows with items such as TCA.

A good reminder that AIS data has plenty of limitations and is for Identification not collision avoidance (though I live in the real world and know plenty use it for such!)

I have an AIS receiver and it has the facility to adjust settings. I have to connect it to Windows Hyperterminal or similar program to do this. Mine is receive only and an SR 151 black box. Check your manual.
