Question to all who are using AIS right now. How is the bearing of a target presented on your system:
A, By Compass Bearing i.e. target due South as 180 deg.
B, Relative to own vessel where Bow would be 0 deg, Starboard beam 90 deg and so forth.

What does the AIS specification say how it should be done?

Thanks Joerg

It depends on the software you use to display the target data - if using an AIS engine to obtain the AIS data in NMEA 0183 sentences as many of us do.

I am using OziExplorer on a PC notebook that displays the target on the relevant chart display - with my own boat on centre-screen and a bearing rose around it to see the bearing of the target (here).

Check here and here to see some examples of different software and their displays on Terry Sargent's yacht 'Valhalla' and John Stevenson's yacht 'Sarah'.

[/ QUOTE ]On a side note, that's an interesting area indeed.
Give the 'Osteria Altran' a try if you have the opportunity.

Ruda is a touch too far inland for my folding bike. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And there are so many good ristoranti close to moorings. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

True, plenty of choices really.
Just in Marano Lagunare, for example: can't remember the names by heart, but there are indeed a couple of good ones!

Presumably the classic fish one in Marano itself, the one on the quayside. My wife, fluent in Italian, asked for the card to be remonstrated with in no uncertain terms that we would get what we get - no choice. There then followed course after course of shellfish, griglia and then all imaginable plates of fish, everything that the fleet had landed that day.

Absolutely. That's what God had in mind for us when he invented seafood! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
