Brings back memories, I used to sail one of these when I was a teenager in the '60s. As they were only intended for one-off use, they fell apart pretty quickly. The one I sailed was waterlogged and a pig to handle.
I think the Maritime Heritage Museum in Newport, IOW, has one. There are plenty of pics and info on the internet. The idea was ingenious, but in practice I don't believe they were ever actually used for a rescue.
