According to the service manual, with 215 hours on the engine, my Air Filter is due for a change. On the D1-30B this invlves replacing the whole unit rather than just removing a filter & cleaning it.

The Operators Manual says "IMPORTANT! Take care no contaminants enter the engine" - a caution repeated by the engineers who were pushing to do the end of season service.

Is the replacement that precarious, in the sense implied?

Also, I wonder if after 215 hours it really is necessary?

I have this engine. Mine has done 930 hours and the air filter still looks fine, engine performs as well as ever.
My policy is, change an air filter if, and when , it needs changed.
