Sorry Guys, problems again. My D3LC, after a decoke and fitting new glow plug and mesh, gaskets etc. doesn't run properly. It starts OK (but with the engine running giving 14.2v) but then after about 15mins, just stops. No gentle shut down with the fan running, just stops! It leaves both the red and green LEDS alight. Throughout the whole time, the engine was running so not a low voltage problem. After stopping, it will start again OK but then stop after another 15 mins or so. Has anyone any ideas of what could be wrong?

As an aside, does everyone have to run their engines to start their Ebers?

With it running 15 minutes it could be a timer set up if not a new unit, but I would expect a proper run down if that were the case, the same goes for if it thinks it's warmed the place up or overheated when it has not. Even under volts it should run down rather than stop. You really shouldn't need 14.2 to start if all is OK, 11.8 should be enough if the current is there as well as volts. Perhaps you could start by checking the connections are all bright and tight and cables are heavy enough. With cut outs like this if all power connections are OK my first port of call is usually to try a known good ECU or try the ECU in a "control" heater.

Sorry to hear you have problems.

To answer your question we have never run our engine to start our Eber'. There must be something wrong for you to have to do that?

Connections?
Cable sizing?
Battery charging problem?
Battery/cell failure?

All sorts of possibilities. Check the volts actually at the Eber' (not at the batteries) when it is running up?

It might be connected with your other problem if there's a dodgy connection?

Thanks David, the power connections are new and are short with heavy cable onto hefty terminals. I can't test the ECU (is that the alu box?) but could my local friendly Eber dealer do that do you think?

John, that's a good suggestion to check the voltage actually at the Eber, I'll do that. I usually start (try to) the Eber on the service bank, 2 x 100 AH, but I have just fitted a new engine starting bat of 100AH. I'll try that also. Thanks.

Make sure you do it when the Ebo is in start up mode to get a meaningful reading and not just fleeting but observed for a minute or so. Yes an Ebo dealer can check it for you, I dont think Edith can talk to it, in fact I'm pretty sure she can't but they may have a control heater to try it on or other old school methodology, best check with them, truck guys are usually a bit cheaper (and more widespread) than a dedicated marine centre for "off boat" service.

Hi,
When I try to diagnose erber nightmares I often take the unit OUT of the boat and then the controller and the fuel pump.

Its the only way sometimes

Good luck

Just dealt with an Ireland customer. Several emails sent. he assured me his volts at the heater were good. Told him to use his charger and ... presto ...working.
However you seem to have an additional problem why just run for 15 mins, one may suspect overheating but it should still shut down properly.
The only sensible possibility is your power supply cutting out or the ECU developing some kind of fault.
Good luck

Actally Skipper_Stu may have a "control" heater he can check it on if you if PM him (keep it in the family)
Would love to but all my bits are long gone now, plus the van man has wised up to the value of them so I dont get them any more!
Stu
PS
All the best to David FD, hope you are keeping well

Thanks Guys for all your help. Actually, the Eber has been in and out of the boat like a jack in the box! Worked Ok on the bench but I didn't let it run for more than 5 mins or so.

Hi Stuart, yes, everything is fine in MH. Went out on Tuesday and had a lovely drift around for a few hours! Wind started to come up as I headed back into the lock. Few hours later it was F8! Hope all OK for you in Holyhead.
