Age verification of mayland 14ft

Evening all,

New to boats and have not long purchased a mayland 14ft with mariner 40hp on the back

I'm looking to find the age of the boat for insurance purposes, but can't find anything that might help

Have found a BBNF number near the wheel, will this help?

If not then help please!

Also is the correct fuel mix for a mariner 40 50/1?

Seem to be reading that it varies from 20/1 to 50/1, the latter being the favourite

Unlikely you will ever be able to establish the exact year of manufacture as prior to 1998 there was no compulsion to identify boats or keep records. Insurance company only requires a number in the box as the age will not affect the premium, so an educated guess is OK.

The engine no. will identify year of manufacture, hence indicate oil/fuel ratio.

Is the engine no. readable?

From what I remember on our Mayland 21 (a few years ago), there is a build number and date on the inside of the transom. Difficult to see as it is stamped into the fibreglass in dots. I found ours and put a dab of black marker pen in each dot and it made it legible.
