and common sense is shouting NO........
What sort of fuel consumption would you expect to get from a pair 450 HP Detroit diesels circa 1979.In a 46 ft Powles.
Are they 4 stroke inline sixes or the 2 stroke monsters.
900 hours.
Why am I even asking ?

That depends on whether they are on outdrives or shafts.... of course :p

You've seen an old girl you fancy I take it :encouragement:

Can you imagine putting 450 HP through the devils egg whisks, the life of an outdrive would be probably be measured in minutes, all those bits from old dinky toys and meccano whizzing round inside.

How fast do you want to go?

My 550hp 2 stroke 6v92 co sine anywhere from about 35l/hr to 210ish l/r

Thanks for that its not speed.
Its can I actually afford to go anywhere in it even at my usual 6-10 knot crawl and are the blimming things going to need a zillion pound rebuild every 1500 hours.
The boat concerned had option of being powered by simple six cylinder Volvo and Perkins units.More common in UK and easy to get bits and pieces.
Major concern, once the first flush of purchase has faded,is the size of the repair bills when they start flooding in. :)

Alf (divemaster1) is your man for all things Detroit. If it's a 2 stroke 71/92 series engine then they are actually pretty simple, parts are readily available.
