Went down to the bay for a sail this aftenoon. The forecast was giving 2knot winds, so I thought we'd just practice under power. It was 10knots when we got there so we got the sails up and had some fun.
After half an hour I thought, we may as well get out in the channel. Louise took us through the lock, her first time and we sailed down to the South Cardiff buoy and back a few times, on flat seas.
What surprised me was that we made nearly 3 knots back against the outgoing tide, which I've never managed before. I noticed that the closer in to Penarth we got, the faster, as we seemed to be out of the tide, although the cliffs sheltered us from the wind if we got too close.
All in all, a lovely afternoon. Completely unexpected, and sometimes, those are the best.
No pics, sorry.
