why do men insist on standing when using the heads?
even when i make a special request for them to sit!
Its safer but more importantly visitors dont have to clean the area after the trip...maybe thats were I'm going wrong?!?

You are absolutely right. There should be signs available saying "Sit or kneel or face your funeral." As long as you are no taller than 6' 2" (and lack Jerry Hall's legs) then you can kneel in our sailing boat loo and splash is not a problem!!!!

Have to go check out the rag and stick boats again. They must be all shag pile carpets in the bog, these days. In ours some one eventually ( Usually Tutt's) Goes for a shower. Then everithing all clean again. Wouldn't like to try and sit down in mine on a rough day. Tutt's the expert though!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

I don't stand, always sit down, habit is so inbred now, I even sit down ashore! I have a notice in all my bogs which TELLS men to sit down, or clean the heads, stupid practice standing to pee at sea! On my old boat, I used to hang by my shoulders, in the lowers on the lee side and pee there, never fell off!

When using the kneeling technique, make very certain that the seat can't slam down!
If using the pushpit, don't pee on the ensign.I think you can still be locked in the Tower for that.
Aah thats better

The rules on Grehan are that chaps always sit down, and that nowt goes in the bog that hasn't been produced by the human using it [other things go in the Greek bag].

Why pee over the side (on watch?), which is v.dangerous (on watch, alone?) - if one's got a self-draining cockpit (anyone hasn't?) then why not pee into the cockpit? (ok for gals, too). Sluice down afterwards if you like.

Problem?

I'm male, (quite sure), always sit down, on the boat and at home. Haven't noticed any problem, still having sex.

But there is an advantage that we male have in being able to dispose of some beer in a sleezy public toilet without touching anything.

" To stand or not to stand that is the question?
wether it be nobler to sit and not to splash!
Or to stand and risk the splash and by opposing the skipper
have to clean the heads! Ar theres the rub!"
Sorry! WS

Tried the sit down technique once at the local pub. Was the laughing stock of the "Gents". Got my trousers wet as well. So embarrased I never went back there again. Perhaps I had the wrong technique. How do those ladies do it?

I lost my front teeth playing rugby a few years ago and since then have a fine set of plastic jobbies.
I lost these when eating a cheese baguette one lunchtime whilst on a skiing holiday.
My brother in law who is a bit of a wag organised the cling-filming of the bog so that I could sift through the jobbies and retrieve the gnashers. He then spent the rest of the week cling filming all the bogs in the resort with devastating effect

Ref peeing over the lee rail.. I must say I always do this and am rather proud of my style and abandon in any conditions.......... However I was rather shocked to hear some US coastguard statistics found that of all the yatchsmen found drowned something like a half had their flys open.... I take a bit more care now.. but still think its a bit wimpy for blokes to pee in the heads (unless here are ladies aboard of course) .......Nick

Cant understand wot all the fuss is about. I always pump personel bilges straight into the cockpit, the grating keeps yer feet dry, "it" runs out the scuppers, no chance of falling overboard whilst hanging onto backstay, heads are kept sweet, so that means female crew are too! A quick bucket of water is as good as a flush and if you've partaken of a few, it also keeps the green algae at bay<s>
