Have got some private legal advice, I have been advised to apologise to those who took offence at my lighthearted remarks RE:an evening on the Hamble.

With this I offer my sincere apologies and that no offence was intended for those who were offended by my remarks.

I would like apologies in return from those who slated my business which will not be subjected to slander from anyone. I did not come onto this forum as an advertising gimmick. I have not bombarded the forum with spam, I have merely put my website address as a signiture as MANY users have, advertising their businesses. After posting this I will remove my signiture to avoid any further assults on my business and person.

I enjoy a good laugh and at times have a slightly warped sense of humour, The primary reason I logged onto this forum was for the witty rappor between users. Not the offensive remarks I was subjected to.

Again I sincerely apologise for any offense taken at my remarks regarding the thread :"An evening on the Hamble"

Relax. I think you have to have been around here for a while before you are allowed to make blanket statements and be offensive. Then everyone assumes that it's part of the character of the place, and anyone who takes offence must be a thin skinned newbie.

All IMHO, of course, and not meant to offend anyone.

Quite right, too. Can't have bloody newbies usurping the regulars' right to be offensive, man!

Now, get back to polishing the clubhouse floor like a good chap, and maybe in a year or two, we'll allow you to speak...

Re: Ah well....

....I see the threads gone anyway; which isn't surprising having seen the early posts and the way in which it appeared to be degenerating.
It's a generally sorry state of affairs when things have to go downhill like that - from my memory of the thread someone was trying to give an illustrated lecture on the problems facing large vessels traveling at slow speeds on narrow waterways and someone else was suggesting that not only shouldn't you generalise too much over the actions of a few (seems a damm fair point with which I feel sympathy every time I see a 'fellow' mobo acting like a muppet) but consider the dificulties faced by these other craft (again a fair point consistent with the origional poster's premise on behalf of a different class of craft.
That is went downhill is not surprising of late; but a shame.

Happy to kiss and make up and apologise for upsetting you...though will point out that no one made any derogatory comments about your business to my recollection, simply that saily type peeps who could be potential customers could be put off by your comments about them (and don't want to get into an arguement about that as about to leave the house for the weekend)

Sure will be. We've got to learn to drive the silyboat thing.

It looks easy enough - despite an abundance of hauls (we have an up one, a down one and an out one, but oddly no inhaul), there's only one stick and one string to work.

Now I figure you can pull or push the stick, and either pull or release the string. That's four possible combinations, so I guess they correspond to north, south, east and west. The manual doesn't specify which, but I figure if we assume pull the stick, pull the string means go North, we can't go far wrong.

Going faster is just a matter of waiting for more wind, and I think I'm right that to stop, you just look for a mobo to run into.

Anything I've missed? Does anyone have any other sailing tips?

Well supervise him, then! Use some initiative, man. Have to say, if we got this sort of behaviour at the club when I was in the Raj, a good flogging used to sort 'em out...

question for you
Does it have a compass on, otherwise how will you know which bit to pull when?????
Tip for you
you may get very wet /forums/images/icons/wink.gif so leave a towel on the big boat, and carry nothing in the little one that you do not mind loosing, I beleive the soltent is tasting quite good at mo!!!!!!

I thought about a compass, but the boat's inflatable, and the point might burst it, so no. If we get lost, I think you just sail very close to a big mobo and ask for directions.
