I had an interesting chat with a Greek broker today , He said that after the 31December 2020 We brits become the same as any other person outside the EC, we don't have to pay EU vat he Said similar to Australia , New Zealand Norway and Switzerland,?

Additional costs for Taxes and Documentation (for Greek Flagged boats only):
Holders of none EU passports, with residence out of EU, None EU companies and EU VAT Registered yacht charter companies can purchase a Greek Flagged boat, in Greece, VAT exempt.
If the buyer is EU physical person, the VAT must be paid in Greece (UNLESS is VAT EXEMPT), during the procedure for the cancellation of the boat from the Greek Registry.

All true - all the disadvantages and the advantage of being a non-EU country.

Presumably that doesn’t apply if keeping the boat in Greece though does it? And VAT would presumably become payable in whichever country you did register the boat - be that another EU country or the UK?

As long as the owner is not resident in the EU he can keep his VAT NOT PAID boat in Greece or another EU country for 18 months without paying VAT and then just sail out of the EU for a day every 18 months to reset the clock.
The country of registration has no bearing on VAT liability nor does the nationality of the owner. Residency is the key determinant.
