After yet another night waking each other up, each time one of us wanted a 'tinkle', we agreed that our next boat would have a centre line berth in the aft cabin.

(we are already dedicated to aft cabin, centre cockpit, boats for a number of reasons, space in the sleeping quarters being one of them)

This is fine by me, if we stick with a Moody it means a 40 upwards - the 38 also has a centreline berth, but the head end is furthest from the transom, ie in the open space, so I would be concerned about pillows falling off during the night.

Before we sell the house and a few other things to upgrade the boat, what other 38 to 40 footers have a centre line berth as standard?

I know a Westerly Oceanranger for example, which had this specified when the boat was being built.

A few:

Beneteau 36CC
Beneteau 40CC
Dufour 36CC
Bavaria 38/40 Ocean

But I bet you'll miss a Moody. By the way I didn't find the 44 much more expensive than a 38....

Bavaria 390 1990-1992, lovely boat, built with a very high spec of equipment and fittings. New Moody 42 owners were very impressed, with the quality and the layout.
Best thing was two full size hatches over the center berth, great for ventilation in hot places.
I'm biased I had one...but I've sailed Moodys Sigmas Swedens Jeaneaus Rivals...and it beats all of those.

The Moody 38 aft cabin is fine - just put the pillows at the aft end & sleep feet forward. There is plenty of room & the later models were planned this way.
