I have used three coats of Micron Extra and that was in April. The bottom of my wooden hull is still clean, and that is without a mid season wash down.
Not impressed with micron this year. being using it for the last x years and it's been okay. 2 coats this year and on a marina berth in gosport and we have stuff growing, had it washed down in july too.
Is that partly through lack of use though?
I'm sure we've got more frills because we've not been using the boat anywhere near as much this year /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I normally need to do one scrub during the year with Micron. This year three so far and to remove not just slime either. Quite a lot of trailing weed growth. That is usually a sign of low usage but now I have retired I have been off the mooring more this year than in previous years.
I usually put a single rollered coat on with an extra coat round the waterline (to about 1 ft down) and on rudder and leading edge of keel. I do know how much Micron I have left, but I think I had to buy a full can just to finish the job. I do not think I will be spending the extra cash for this "premium" product again.
So its not just Coppercoat thats not doing its best job then?
Interestingly, I have put a couple of coats of Blakes (??) on the fore section under my hull, thinking it would work better to deter weed than the coppercoat, thats were most of the growth was. That was done in Aug and I noticed last weekend that I have some weed growing at the bow, just below the water line.
Having suffered with Cruiser Uno this year I don't want another badly performing product for next year ... but I may be able to get a discount on some International AF - hence the question ..
We're aiming to stay in this winter and re-do the AF on the Cowes boat lift (they do offer that service don't they?) ... which would suggest the VC 17m Extra, but that requires all our current AF to be removed (most of it has gone, but there is still a little of previous years showing) so not sure what to go for ... might have to go back to the Blakes AF from previous years that hasn't been too bad.
Actually - a friend has said that Blakes Ocean performer gave just light weed growth with no slime or barnacles ... so that is still an option for next year...
A friend used Micron on the Roach a couple fo years ago and it was useless. He complained and got their "industrial" strength stuff for this year... Just as bad. Gladys has Seajet Shogun on, and isn't good, but she didn't turn a wheel from March to end June in Fox's Marina at Ipswich.
Use Micron every two years. Sail NI and SW Scotland. No probs this year that washdown doesn't clear. Know of others who use Micron in same area with similar good results. Ron
