Aerial for Radio Cassette

I want to connect a car type aerial to my radio cassette. The thread posted some days ago is useful but the one question I have is;
a) Should I remove the telescopic aerial in order to prevent interference between this and the car aerial?
b) How should the car aerial cable be connected, i.e. just the centre core of the cable to the telescopic aerial or its mount? Where should the outer braided part of the cable be connected to?
c) Or should I even open up the radio and find the cable connection from the telescopic aerial into the radio's 'guts', and connect this to the car aerial cable?

Any advice will be appreciated!

If it at all helps, I have an old car ariel, just plugged in and loose in an locker, great reception. But if you need to make a connection from another, just use centre core but make sure you solder.
