I am fitting a main sail outhaul, in its self easy and wish to adjust from cockpit, How does one get it to coach roof cleat without it fouling the kicking gear?. This is on a Falmouth Gypsy, for those unfamilar the step is slightly deeper than the mounting point of the vang and would tighten the rope if the boom was eased. Advice greatly received.

Bring the outhaul line out to just below the boom. Fit a block to the end of the line. Take another line through the block to the foot of the mast on both sides and then (though turning blocks if required) to convenient jammers on both sides of the coachroof. This way the lines will stay away from your kicker, be adjustable from both sides of the boat and you'll get and additional purchase on your outhaul. You'll find something like this on the outhaul, kicker and cunningham controls of many sailing dinghies.

Many thanks for your wisdom and simple clear instructions. Why did I not think of that solution . Old grey matter getting tired. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
