My Starboard Volvo outdrive leg has decided to stop working , you can hear a clicking noise coming from the pump when you press the switch but nothing moves, any ideas ?

I'd say the clicking noise is the solenoids. Sounds as if the pump motor is the culprit. Can you hear is working. If the pump turns and the leg still don't move, check the oil level.

Had one go on me. Took the motor off and put in new brushes and turned the armature down on a lathe to tidy it up and give a good surface for the brushes.

Either the switch is faulty or you might need a new relay or a solenoid has gone.

If it is the pump,it is a fairly simple job to strip down and give a good clean up.
ie brushes etc.my pump stopped working cos wire had broken away from windings.
Dead easy solder job to fix.
just make sure as you pull it to bits that you keep a note of what goes where.
Couple of different types of pump depending on age/type of leg.My pumps were identical to pumps on mercruiser.
