Hi all - I have a Sealine F42/5 which over the years has suffered from damp and as such the wood has swelled. This makes the doors stiff to close, and some of the cupboards just don't line up correctly.

I'm wondering if there are any reputable companies/people out there who specialise in repair and restoring? From my understanding its simple chipboard and laminate? Nothing I'd want to tackle myself but really would like to get this back to "like new".

Also the laminate needs some love as there are some chips here and there (presumably a french polisher or sorts would be required).

Any help or recommendations much appreciated.

Hi,

This is in a number of places but the major annoyance are the door frames have swelled. For example on the bathroom the bottom of the door frame has swelled a few mm and as such the door is stiff to close. From what I can see its laminate on top of chipboard (or board of sorts).

I have no pictures at the minute but will get some in due course. I guess I'm just after someone who deal's in wood repair / laminate.

Any suggestions welcome.

If the boat has suffered damp conditions, I would try leaving a dehumidifier on constant for a month or so, this might allow the doors to close better before any major surgery. This will work better if the dehumidifier is near the doors with the issue and air vents are blocked off.

The cupboard doors mostly have adjustable hinges, by turning the screws on these you will notice movement of the doors, just a matter of practice to get right. Any chips on the laminate can be filled with coloured furniture wax.

I would agree with Bojangles.

A dehumidifier draining to a sink, but put two oil filled heaters the small Delonghi type 240 v set at about 60% of temperature range, this will :
A; speed up the drying process as the water will be released from the laminate
B: a domestic dehumidifier does not work at low temperatures.

I have a small domestic dehumidifier from B&Q and two heaters of this type and it makes a real difference.

If you have any water in the bilges be it rain or salt you also need to find the source of the leak and cure it.
