Advise For Banana Boater On First Sea Trip.

Looks like I might have to teach a new crew member the rudiments of boat crewing at sea. This ones very experienced but never been to sea before. Main difference seems to be, my deck is about five foot higher than the pontoon, where as the one there used to is about the same level. Jumping off the deck is therefore not advisable. The pontoon might not stand the strain....../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Now over the years with the previous now demised crew member, we had devised a variation on the Indian rope trick, which unfailingly deposited MF at the pontoon in micro seconds. An interesting variation used for picking up buoys. The sort of method that results in TV warning. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!. Please would the ospicious panel advise the length of time the training course should cover. I do want to get on with the holiday as soon as possible. About thursday hopefully!!

Are there any other things that I've totally forgot about. Like the art of delivering tomatoe soup to the fly bridge in a blow!!

Just don't forget it is supposed to be fun whatever happens - just invest in some bigger fenders just in case. It's the wrong time of year to be taking the balanced day approach - ie you had a briliantr day in the sunshine now just concentrate on this indian rope trick please...........

oh hell if the banana's that experienced why don't you do the rope trick and leave teh banana at the helm?

The banana boater crew in question, is very experienced in all sorts of ways, picking up buoys /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif has never been a problem. Likewise delivering any kind of soup to a fly bridge, in a blow or whatever, all that’s needed is a captain that can catch a tin. Otherwise suggest a fishing net is on hand enable the tin to be more easily caught, there having been no mention of the requirement for the soup to be hot, or even warm in any way.

Im sure we will have a super time, just hope the weather is kind.

Hmm. Banana boater lacks experience with M Farters twin 200HP I fear, being used to a more modest single 50HP lump on a 18 ton boat. The lightening quick responce of MF's shafts jumping into life may require a modicom of tuition.

However I did think of replacing MF's super hawser 50ft long mooring warps for something more sutible for use by the smaller frame...../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Yes. Berthing with vidio camera glued to eye does seem to require a new skill I have not yet developed. Especially when one eye is on super zoom and the other is'nt!!. Sort of upsets the distance thingy.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif....Calling for quick reverse mecanism to be engaged in all haste!!

regarding giving my forthcoming captain "lesson's" well i am very experienced myself, and not at all worried. However, do you know where i can get my dog a life jacket from ? I will be bringing my own substantial life jacket so i will be fine.

Nah! that's just normal alcohol induced double vision, and is well know to most stinkie skippers. Just close one eye, and things will look normal and no requirement for hasty reverse mecanism engagement /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
