advice wanted: Fisher 25 vs colvic watson 26

I tried the F25 before settling on the CW 35.

F25 is a bit rolly, but some have bilge plates fitted which damps the oscillations well.

Both breeds need a good F2 before it's even worth thinking about sails, but will carry on up the scale until the crew has had enough.

CW are cheaper because they are mainly home finished - but there are some beautiful, professionally completed, examples around.

Masses of storage room and headroom in both !

Not much between them in functionality, but for looks, the Fisher.

Looked and tested/sailed a number of them both in detail before I purchased my CW 23'-6"'.
Both sail very similar and both do roll in heavy weather but I found the Colvic had the edge for sea keeping and both are bullet proof weather boats and will test you to the limit.
I personaly find they sail better 'without' bilge keels but some with bilge keels fitted will disagree (that's sailing).
All fisher visitors to my boat including Fisher 25'owners say the CW is the bigger boat onboard.
They are not fast boats, to date my best is 6.3 knots with Genoa & mainsail. Motorsailors for the East coast are well recomended.
The fisher although a great boat I do not think is worth the extra sometimes much higher asking price and sometimes for a much older year boat, when for less you can get a much better and newer Colvic Watson, however make sure it is a Colvic Watson not a look alike!.
Finding a Colvic Watson/Fisher for sale is no problem, finding a good one takes time.
Saying all above the Fisher is a great boat and I suggest you try and go out with someone with each type of boat as I did but I have no regrets in my choice and went for the Colvic Watson.
If you need any help mail me.

26' Ketch rigged must be a Popular boat, I count 5 on the Owners site, go to 'Database', and 'boat names', if I was Blofeld I woud go for a 23'-6" 'sloop rigged', great for single handed sailing.

Seriously: you want(ed) a ketch in order to downsize sails to more manageable sizes- in the days before powerful winches. If you wanted a boat that also sailed well, you rather went for a cutter rig. There's a green 26' one-stick Colvic Watson lying next to me and the sailplan could hardly be described as "asking for trouble". For sale via the marina btw!

Well...also I was told mizzen is perfect to put an awning!

Still I think that under strong wind one can use genoa and mizzen, excluding main.

thank you all for valubale info..and sorry if my english isn't that good!

pedro aka E.S. Blofeld
