Looking to relocate 22' bilge yacht somewhere between Chichester and Southampton. Any advice on lower cost moorings would be appreciated including commercial marina's, smaller boatyards and sailing clubs. We tend only to take the yacht out of the water for 2 months. Variety of moorings/pontoon will be considered. I am searching the web but some of the smaller places will not appear. Any advice would greatly be appreciated via a private message. Thank you.

Look at wicormarine in Portsmouth harbour, they are on the net, family run yard with a variety of moorings, winter storage etc, quiet location, 45 mins from the harbour entrance but Portsmouth is an intetresting place to sail from and several places to go in easy reach of a 22ft eg Ryde, Bembridge, wooton, Lansgtone etc, only just off the M27, we have no connection with the yard but have been there for years and happy, the price will be more than a diy sailing club but then you dont have to help lay the moorings, less than a marina, they tend to have plenty of space for smaller boats.

Happy hunting, Chubby

I'd recommend Langstone Sailing Club [click here] (my club) who are just to the side of Hayling Bridge - they have a number of tidal moorings on both sides of the bridge, and I think there may be some free on the Chichester side of the bridge.

Reasonable costs to join, and mooring are cheaper than the Chichester Conservancy moorings... add to that they are a nice bunch of people, good bar, cheap/good real ale.... I'm well on my way to saving my mooring fee's by drinking their beer this year! :D

Very expensive in my experience, would try Hamper marine further up the creek if I were you.(not sure if that is the actual name they trade under now but you can find them by the viaduct). The two are as different as chalk & cheese & I would certainly choose Wicor for the setting if I could afford it.

Could also try the Fareham main marina type place. Not sure what they charge but Hamper is a bit of the pits.Quite apart from anything else the gravel warf makes a racket.

PS:Hampers is now called Upper Quay marina & is'nt such a bad place really. Can be contacted on 02312 469855.Be surprised if that is'nt the cheapest place between Chichester & Southampton.

I've found Portsmouth Moorings are good value.

The sailing clubs can be cheapest but the waiting lists are sometimes really long (I heard 8 years for one near me!).

Also, check what months you can leave your boat on any mooring you go for if you want to sail outside the main season and avoid having to haul out and store ashore every year.
