Advice re: boat purchase

I am looking to purchase a new boat and am a cash buyer. I am inerested in 2 boats on th south cost and have contacted the brokers to request a viewing.

As I am travelling a considerable distance, I have have requested a sea trial on the same day but have been refused!

Am I being unreasonable in my request? The seller runs the risk of loosing a potential buyer but he or she may never know.

All advise welcome.

Not unreasonable in my opinion especially as you are coming from afar.

Brokers may be more cynical than vendors. I wonder if the vendors will ever get to know about your interest?

I would recommend that (a) you keep looking, and (b) you inform the brokers that they have lost a sale because of their attitude. Thirdly, I would put this in a letter to CB and to PBO, stating the kind of boats which you were looking at, but not the unhelpful brokers. Include a contact address, and you may find the owners of these boats contacting you, plus others who you were not aware of.

Sea trial on first viewing is rather unusual. They can be expensive and time consuming for the vendor/broker. If it is substantial boat there is more than enough to do with the initial viewing before making an offer, when a trial might be a reasonable next step.

Thanks for your advise(all). In my commitment to travel and pay for an hotel, demonstrates I'm not a time waster. I will adust my offer to reflect their attitidue and keep looking.

It's a pitty we can't cut out the middle man and talk one to one!

That is such a good idea Neil. Hope you'll purchase a good boat. When you are buying for a boat, make sure that you have tested it before buying it.
