My brother is thinking of buying this boat. We're off to Belfast on Saturday to look at it.

He wants it to replace his 30footer in Scotland, near Oban. It will be used for diving and maybe some dive charter work. Anyone know anything about this model/builder etc etc? It's on a Tyler hull, so that's ok I guess, and seems in good condition. Builder is Aberdour Marine. Specsheet is good, it has stabilisers! The aft deck isn't perfect for diving, but he will have to put up with that because he wants the accommodation (it has 3x double cabins, 1xsingle, 4 ensuites).

LJS what do you think of it as a dive boat? He wants something big and heavy, and he will have a new custom massive bathing platform made for the transom, for divers to use. Praps a Stannah stairlift to gettem up to the aft deck too. He is a very exp diver. I will also insist the chintz fabrics are replaced :). Any advice from the panel and comments on price would be appreciated.

Nice well built boat but a bit roly poly. Dunno much about as a dive vessel??? That huge cabin top could take a nice sized rubber duck tho'

Looks like an awfull lot of boat for the money. Not sure its right as a dive boat after being on LJS's. Might do if you chop the back half off/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: See?

I just knew he'd get lots of useful advice if he posted on the bb! Nice piccie innit.

The spreadsheet approach dictates that there's either this one or nothing, so my advice would be to buy it as he'll drown if he goes out on a "nothing".

Nice looking boat, ideal for cruising, but as already said aft deck looks small so where's all the dive gear going to be stored. It only takes a few divers to fill a large space with their gear, and for most of them there's lots of it! They also need space to kit up and de-kit, but if your brother's a diver then he will realise all this.

Getting in and out of the water is important, rather than a stannah stairlift for us decrepit divers mebbe consider a hydraulic dive platform, many of the large dive boats in Weymouth have them. Have never used on e but it must make life extremely easy.

Another consideration is the visibility from the helm, will he be able to see divers in the water so he can pick them up safely, rather disconcerting being run down by 20 tons or more of boat! Another option to consider if there's space is to have a decent sized RIB to pick em up and then transfer to mother ship, or even better invent a "beam me up Scottie" device/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

All in all looks one hell of a boat, hope it lives up to expectations. Have a good trip.

Re: Tail lift

Yes LJS, we were thinking of a massive hydrualic up/down "tray" at the back. When up it would be 12inch below deck level, so diver walks onto it. When down it would be just below water. With railings all around and mesh floor so it drains. And almost the full width of the transom, so lots of elbow room. Like a big lorry tail lift. Is that what you have seen on other dive boats?

Re: Tail lift

Yep that's about it, but why not have it come up level with the deck, any reason to stop 12" short?

Re: Upgrading it,

With that line of repaired bullet holes running up the stbd bow, all it now needs is a 2" cannon mounted on the foredeck to compliment the helipad on the rear, perfect for all sorts of activities as well as diving:))

It seems that Duckgrabber has disapeared to the land of serious boat discussions. I actually don't think he meant to cause as much aggro as he did. No doubt his quack was worse than his beak.

Sorry scrub metro, I meant Morris Minor
