Just in the final throws of Antifouling and need some advice. I've left the required gap between outdrive and antifoul (currently masked up) but as I had to strip back all of the previous antifoul here (as no gap), it is currently an unfinished surface and likely more susceptible to ingress.

I would like to paint it with something to seal and make good, my other option is to wet and dry / cut / wax which I would prefer not to do due to the awkward location, so what can be used? what is the best product that does not contain copper and would be suitable??

Would Hammerite or similar be suitable for a seasons use? or does anyone know if International's Primer would be sufficiently resistant?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

not sure I understnad your dilemma -

assuming this is GRP, and that you haven't 'stripper back' through the gel coat, then the 15-25mm gap clear of antifoul should be left as is.
The gel coat is the water barrier not the antifouling. A good coat of wax polish will suffice.

Thanks for the reply Duncan, as this has been rubbed down, currently the area is rough / matt unpolished gel coat, and I would prefer to paint in some way to protect and finish off.

Duncan, thanks for your suggestions, but as I said due to the nature of gaining access to that area on my boat and the time involved to bring back from 220 (grit) I would prefer not to polish up the Gelcoat.

However, incase anyone else has the same question, I've just given International a call and a helpful chap there confirmed that Primocon (the Primer that I'm using) is Aluminium based and so can be paited right up to the transom shield.

Problem solved!
