You will also find detailed information on the RYA site, including details on how to get an ICC if you need it.

Your boat is probably too old to worry about VAT. There is also a section on the site dealing with the ins and outs of VAT. The key issue with your boat is whether it was in the EU in 1992 as boats built prior to 1985 and in the EU in 1992 are "deemed VAT paid". However, if it was imported into the EU after that date then it would be useful to have evidence of VAT payment. Very rarely are people asked for VAT paperwork on old boats, but one that was built outside the EU might trigger off questions You will find details of the evidence required in the VAT section on the website.

No legal requirement that I'm aware of to be registered to visit France, ditto ICC, no requirement except for some inland waters. No idea if you need to carry an insurance document or not. I'm pretty sure I heard France is about to change the law such that a licence for a hand held VHF is no longer required.

As an aside, if you're not UK resident you can't have an SSR. :-( In fact IIRC if you're not UK resident it won't be automatically British Flagged which is interesting, although in practical terms perhaps irrelevant.

Have a great trip!

EDIT: Still no legal requirement that I'm aware of. However there has been at least one person who has accepted a 150EUR fine, French Customs have confirmed this as genuine. Unfortunately it still doesn't identify the offence committed:

There have been reports of fines for carrying out of date stock (flares, unserviced life rafts) from France and Portugal.

Really? Perhaps you should tell the RYA that?

I, and at least one other, have had communications with the RYA about the situation in Portugal. They don't appear to be able to do anything and have pointed out that every country has a right to impose whatever requirements they wish an boats cruising their waters.
