Advice on the best way to sell a sport fishing boat please?

I am not enjoying my boat as much as I did, now that I do not have my wife to accompany me. This combined with the difficulty in getting the outdrive serviced in the West Highlands has made me consider parting with it.
The boat is a 21 foot sport fishing boat with a sterndrive, on a trailer but at the upper limit of comfortable towing. It is based at our holiday home in Argyll and I live in Notts (sharing my time in the summer between the two places). The boat has been serviced and polished, it is 10 years old and worth just over £10k.
How would you go about selling it?
Would you try to sell it where it is or bring it home. Would a broker be worthwhile for a boat of this value? They did not impress me a few years ago when I was buying. Are any of the web sites appropriate?
Any thoughts or advice please?

My feeling is that for £10k a broker is over the top. Have you looked at www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk?

I bought my fishing boat from them and they seem to have good stock of boats at most times.

FWIW, I'd guess that having the boat at home would be a better bet than having it sitting hundreds of miles away from you when potential viewers came along.

Get it home so as said previous you are available for viewers and place a classified advert on ebay!
No not an auction they now offer a classified option....
Price is very cheap and I would suggest this as the site where you will gain maximum coverage!
I advertised my last two boats via this classified ebay option and sold one and swapped the other for the boat I was looking for!

PS Take lots of good quality pictures as ebay allows you a max of 12 and make sure the boat is looking its best.
 
That's a pity really.
Maybe worth sticking an ad in the Oban Times locally before you go to the bother of moving her? Scot ads and ad trader cost nothing to advertise in. There is a place in Oban that sells boat stuff on commission, worth asking the people there?
I suspect it is easier to sell at your home, more buyers but also more boats so maybe if you could find someone up here looking for something like her you should get more for her.

Hi Mike, don't want to pry but you mention your wife no longer goes with you and having been down THAT route more than once I wonder if you are considering selling because either you are widowed or abandoned and feel fed up? Should that be the case can I humbly suggest you bring the boat home and park it up for a while because one thing I have learnt is that even when life seems the pits it will pass in time and things change for the better and you might want that boat again.

Of course, I could be completely wide of the mark here and if so I apologise if I touch other tender spots.
 
Thank you all for the kind advice. Much of it sums up my own thoughts but the web sites are usefull - I used to look at Euroboats but they seem to be less active in the UK now.
The Oban Times is a good idea - I do have a subscription to it and they do seem effective when selling reasonablt priced boats, not expensive to advertise in either.
So I think best plan may be to try Oban Times next time I am there, if no success, bring the boat home and try from home. There are possibly more buyers in the midlands but it would be easy to demonstrate it in Argyll.
Kawasaki - yes it would be harder to find a nicer area to boat although I am going to Wales his weekend. The area is not the problem, it's boating alone and lack of mechanical backup. I can do a lot of mechanical work myself but these days would rather not.
Clive, not prying at all - thanks for your thoughts. Yes I was widdowed 3 months ago and that combined with the lack of service fascilities for outdrives in Argyll that started me thinking " shall I do away with the hassle and either look at chartering or sharing an easier to maintain boat with someone else.
I am not in a rush but it does sometimes now seem that the pleasure / aggrevation ratio is a bit out. What I am very relieved about is the fact that I still love our holiday home, I did not know if I would.

Mike....sorry to here of the recent passing of your wife.

Everybody has made relevant points, its just a matter of weighing up what is the better option for you regarding inspection/demonstration of the boat, either at home or in Scotland.
Maybe a consideration could be to part exchange/swap for a newish outboard powered boat around 18 feet you could handle yourself with lesser servicing issues. It would keep you boating and if you had to take her home or serviced, an easier prospect to tow.

I just sold a car and rib on ebay with great sucess and great respnse from People, The only down side is that you do have to remind people to bid since I did not put a reserve in ..
