Not knowing too much about osmosis I am looking for opinion from the forum. I was looking over a boat at the weekend (Moody 1985) with a view to buying, it had a few months ago severe osmosis all over the hull small blisters all over. The hull has now been cut back to the fibreglass and allowed to dry out in the open air. It will be re-gel coated again. Is this the best solution, although expensive, to curing the osmosis, and what if any would be the chance of this coming back?

Sounds pretty good

Think of osmosis as a form of acne, not cancer. ie its a skin complaint.

The treatment which is underway is the way to go, and it shouldnt come back if the hull has been allowed to dry out as you say it has.

Before you spend several thousands on remedial treatment, I strongly advise that you read the following:
1. Fibreglass Boats by Hugo Du Plessis ( a leading authority on fibreglass boats and osmosis).
2. Osmosis by Bengt Blomberg (many years research into the causes of osmosis and the issues with various forms of remedial treatments). It can be downloaded from http://www.osmosisinfo.com/

You can then make up your own mind about the "osmosis solutions" that are being suggested.

The local osmosis treatment people will strip a hull then dry it either over time under cover and/or using a tent and dehumidifiers. How long? That depends. Some will dry quickly, others not. They will not recoat until the moisture levels are down to an acceptable level, and ambient temperature high enough. There is also a question of any contaminants needing removal.
