Am looking to upgrade my GPS and Sounder/ Fishfinder from my existing Navman Tracker 950 ( 5 inch diagonal screen ) and Furuno Colour LCD FCV-600L Sounder . Have been thinking about a combined unit but would I compromise on GPS screen size by doing this? Would I be better off leaving the Furuno alone ( it works OK ) and just upgrading the GPS to a bigger screen ? Any advice on reasonably valued kit greatly appreciated.

G'day wp1234,

If it ain't broke don't fix it, hang onto your fish finder, they are a good unit. As for Navigation, I like the Raymarine products because they are more robust than most others.

Avagoodweekend......

Have a look at the Standard Horizon CP-300, it has a 7" screen and will accept depth and AIS data at any point in the future but in the short term you will have an excellent plotter.

Expect to pay around 500 pounds for the internal antenna version.

Thanks to the three of you for the advice so far.I wonder if its really worth paying the extra £££ for a 7 inch screen ?Any good 5 inch Charplotters out there ?

[/ QUOTE ]It's absolutely worth paying extra for! Might not sound much bigger, but a 7" screen is nearly double the area of a 5" screen. And bigger screens often have better definition (which is what you really need with a plotter). As an example, the 5" Standard Horizon CP180 has 320x240 definition; the 7" CP300 has 800x480 definition - 5 times better!

If you still want to buy a 5" plotter, look for one with 640x480 definition.
