Hi. I am looking for a classic boat - sailing or motor yacht - reasonable condition for under £15,000. Does anybody have any suggestions or know of anybody selling? I have of course looked in YBW website and apolloduck...I found one lovely boat for £10,000 only to discover it was already sold on ebay for under half that price! A pint of warm beer as reward to anyone who can point me to somebody selling!!!! Many thanks.

Will be selling Maurice Griffiths Cockler (24ft mahogany on oak gaff cutter) long keel with plate maybe end of this year. Three full length berths plus pipe cot (I've slept on it 6'1 & 16 stone). If you are north west UK then come to Liverpool & have a look.

There are plenty of affordable wooden boats. If you have the time (lots of it) for the maintenance then I still say that wooden boats are cheap to run. If you factor in an hourly rate for your labour, or you expect to pay someone, then you will need deep pockets! Family & I have had a fantastic 15 years out of ED all round N Wales (and further to Ireland once), but now with numerous toddlers it's time to change.

Make sure you get a ship that's in commission. Sail it & do enough maintenance to keep her afloat. If you start all enthusiastic & take the thing to bits to 'do her up' then 10 to 1 you will sell her in 10 years having never really done her or yourself justice.

Cheers

www.easternyachts.com often have some interesting classics though I haven't looked recently. Last time I did I accidently ended up with a new boat.

If you want to sail buy a good one and then you just need a zillion hours every winter to keep her in good condition.

Shove off oldfrank miseryguts (hmm smiley intended here to avoid serious insult.. can't do it).... I have never regretted Eider Duck for 15 or so years. Freely admit I can't offer her enough time now with 2 sprogettes. Will kick myself every year after she's gone though
