Any advice on getting my heating back into service.
I turned the heating on recently forgetting that the diesel was turned off after changing the filter. It ran out of fuel and in the process of the eberspacher trying to bleed itself it cut out. No electrical signs at the control switch panel.
Any help would be very welcome

Assuming it was all working fine before hand, it should simply need a few starts to get the fuel back up to it. You say it is a DIL (at leat 15 years old) in which case no problem (may need to run the engine to avoid depleting the battery). Reports suggest that newer models electronically 'lock-out' after a certain number of restarts and need dealer reseting. I do find this very strange, and if it is true would not, ever, contemplate buying a product from this manufacturer again.

If you can do it easily, disconnect the diesel feed at the heater, start it, and the diesel should purge itself very quickly. Reconnect.

A couple of things to check:
On top of the heater you will find a rubber grommet. Press down on it and you will feel a small plunger type switch - the temperature cutout. Press down to reset.
Have a look at the control unit. The D1L was originally fitted with a black plastic unit, but many have been replaced with a later, aluminium one which has a fuse next to the terminals. Check the fuse.
Last resort is to check the 16 amp in-line fuse on the positive feed.

Best of luck.

I can confirm that this is true at least for the Hydronic 10.
I too find it extraordinary and a constant source of irritation/concern.

Thanks for the above advice. The model is a D1L Comfort fitted on our 1990 yacht. I have looked for the rubber grommet but there is just a smooth casing with no apparent openings for the thermal cut out reset. I will check the other things as sugested.

Try disconecting from the electric supply, pull the fuses, leave for abit (1 hr). then try again. Usually works when mine misbehaves. Good luck

the d1lc does have a lockout that locks it out after 10 incidents, ie fuel running out, failed start, overheat etc. the techie from tcl in ellesmere port showed me how to bleed it to save using up useful "lives" get a piece of twin core, connect one end to the battery and flash the terminals on the fuel pump so that it clicks until you see the fuel going thru the small feed pipe, when it is up to the eber, reconnect the pump and fire away. if it isnt responding do as the other guys said and check the inline fuse in the big black connector, quote "it is the first thing i check" techie. it is notorious for corroding, the unit draws 20 amps when starting and any corrosion here will stop the current flow.
there is downloadable manuals on the eber US site. i think it is www.espar.com
