Whoa... some bugger has really turned up the heat in the Med.
After three years of having an occasional warm day we are now melting into a pool of water on the floor.
The cold and rain we hated now seem like bliss.
I know I am never pleased but that is the grumpy old man inside.
Any advice you have on keeping ourselves and the boat cool would be most welcome.

Do you realise how many people in UK you have p****d off with this post.:p

When it gets as hot as this you sometimes dream of cold rainy days and warm clothes.
Believe me, as little clothing as possible, constant heat making you want to swim all the time, no sheets on the bed and not wanting hot food is not all it is cracked up to be.... feel any better now!

Nostro, just looking at the forecast for our London to Brighton cycle ride tomorrow, driving rain and headwinds so you can see that sympathy from this quarter may be in the minority. Oh yes advice........I would refer you to rule 5...............http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

:o

Love the rules but nowhere did I see that men should never walk, run or move anywhere in those shorts... it is just wrong.. even worse than speedo's.

You need to be hanging on your anchor with wind scoops at all hatches to catch as much breeze as possible. Minimising movement helps too - time hibernate under the boom tent for the summer!

OMG , come on guys , we had one of the wetted cold winter since we lived on the boat , it great that the sun shining , blue sky's and sea breezes , just enjoy it , get out of marina and anchor , that will go a long way to keeping you cool , good size Bimini also help make a wind tunnel but most of all stop moaning . The cold and rain we be back before you know it

the old 'desert cooler' trick might be useful.

Tent-like construction of fine cloth over the hatch(es) and a can of water (salt is OK) leading to a drip feed system of small pipes. The water runs down the cloth, evaporates in the sun/wind, and as it does so the latent heat of evaporation cools the by-passing air.

No cost apart from needing to chuck a bucket of water in the can every so often.

Assuming the water temperature is still fairly low, get a large bucket off water and sit with your feet in it. Works until the bucket of water warms up and is less effort than swimming!

Wish we had your problem - Glengariff is wet and windy, but we still love it here

Your right.. thinking about going into the Mar Menor for a week or two to anchor.. anyone any advice about it?

It is quite shallow in parts.

There are lots of jellyfish.

Best place to begin anchoring is as you enter the Mar, after the canal, on the starboard hand. About 300m out; there will probably be others there. You can then dinghy ashore to Tomas Maestre Marina bars and eateries.

Alternatively, tie up on the marina waiting pontoon (opposite the fuel berth), send SWMBO to the office (about 10 mins walk away) to 'enquire about prices' whilst you fill up with water, wash the boat and have a shower. Stay for a couple of hours then off to anchor as previously mentioned.

thinking around this problem...

Sea temperature in the Med is nearly always below air temperature (at least when the air temp becomes uncomfortable).

So, why not pump water from a hose about 1 to 2 m below the surface, up through a car heater type matrix (heat exchanger) which has a solar power fan blowing ambient air through the matrix and thus cooling it. Current sea surface temp in the Med is approx 21, which seems cool enough for the job ?

Yep, sums it up! Tried and tested, ran aground twice in one day :)
