Hi all friend of mine wants to move from Motor Cruiser to yacht (bet he gets bored......) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
and has asked for me to post requesting some opinions on what could be the ideal boat for him to purchase. So if i give a wish list I'd be obliged for any suggestions, and thanks for your help in advance.

Budget £10-15k
Berths 4
length 24-35ft
Inboard diesel
Shaft drive
He thinks a bilge keeler would be best as he is medway based and would like one that sits square.
and would like eventually to do some extended cruisinng to france etc.

Now i know you raggies are all intelligent chaps unlike us stinkers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifand do appreciate your help,
Thanks again

closest to similar handling under power is a catamaran - they also sit well on mud, water etc Cats are available in your price range, with two or a single engine.

worth looking at a Heavenly twins or a catalac 8m

Of course if he has a bit more money, he can buy my 9m Catalac. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In his price range he could also find a scruffy Iroquois

2 questions

why would he want an iriquois?

Why are you recomending a cat that really needs experience to be able to sail safely to somebody who is converting from a mobo?

For tht price range you could get a decent nick Trapper 500/501 which is 27', 6 berths, virtually bullet proof and very forgiving. Look for one that has recently been re-engined and you won't go far wrong. I have a fin keeled version on the Medway and don't have a problem with depth of water, there are any number of deep water moorings available from the local sailing clubs which are reasonably priced and lots of sheltered anchorages that don't dry out. The fin keel gives much better sailing ability

Good luck with your search.
