We are supposed to be going on a rally with our club (Little Ship Club) to Fecamp this coming weekend. The idea is that we will link up with East Coast (where's that??) members. But there are only two boats going from the South Coast (including us), and one of those is the overall organiser who is away for the week. On top of which I have work on Tuesday so can't do more than cross and sail back again.

Which seems to me to be a long way for very little.

Am I right or wrong?

Is there much in Fecamp? And whatever there is, is it worth two cross-channel sails estimated 12 hours each way, the first being at night?

It is quite COLD at night at the moment, and I don't fancy a night's lost sleep and being frozen unless there is something worth it at the other end.

On top of which I have one of my (rare) work days on tuesday, when I have some awkward surgery to do. So I don't fancy being tired beforehand. On top of which, there is a proposed rail strike on Tuesday by SW Trains drivers (ASLEF I believe).

So I am in a quandry.

Whiile I don't mind overnight sea trips, I do really want something at the other end to look forward to, especilally if I am doing the 4 hours on-4 hours off watchkeeping system we use on Cornish Maid. Which with 2 peeps means that one of us (HWMBO) will get very little sleep that night. Which wouldn't matter if we had lots of time and exciting things to do. Which I doubt in the time available.

So, should I go, or should I request Forumites in the Solent region who will be sailing over the Bank Holiday to possibly meet-up at some place where we could have some GOOD SOLIALISING

What do you experts suggest I do?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Nobody has asked to join us. I have circulated other members but they are otherwise engaged.

So it is just me & him.

Alone.

12 hours thats good going from the solent to fecamp. it must be near 100 miles. I must get a quicker boat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Becky just keep a very close watch on the weather it could be F6+ NW monday, that'll be one hell of a slog.

PS I'm no expert, just a passer by.

Going via Brighton could make it a good deal easier as a sail - although it would add a day to the journey.

Also - at the danger of stating the obvious - you can do a 12 hour trip as a long day rather than an overnight, setting out at 3 or 4, as soon as you've set off one goes back to bed and gets another few hours kip.

I've always wanted to go to Fecamp but never quite made it - so if I were you I'd go, but you've got to enjoy the crossing to make it worthwhile.

As others have said it is more fun if you've got a crew

Weather forecast for this weekend would indicate a medium to high risk of a bad trip back on monday. We are intending to stay in the Solent cause I have to drive up to Bristol area first thing tuesday morning, and then be all bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Had planned to be away all this week, ended up getting my drive dug up instead ! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Were it not for the fact that I am aware of your profession, I would feel a little sorry for you. However........... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is it worth, especially with the possible weather conditions for Monday, leaving boat and returning next weekend to collect. Good excuse for another weekend away. Worked for me as I'm off to Amsterdam next weekend to finish a foreshortened journey from Denmark.

That's mean!

I specialise in only nice things now. Ask Tome!

Still awaiting a decision on his preferred plans from HWMBO, who isn't back until tomorrow.

Still don't think the trip is worth the hassle, especially when i get back and don''t know if I can get to London to see a patient, who is flying from the IoM.

Complicated,see?

Bloody hell woman.

2 things spring to mind

1: The patient would suggest you don't go.

2: As a psychotherapist, can you not work it out yourself?

Stay at home Becky!

Its a long way in a sail boat and if you are doing a 12 hour overnight passage you will have to sleep all day! so whats the point? I think even in a motor cruiser doing say 15 knots it would be hard to do in a weekend! Course if you can borrow a boat that will do 25 knots plus then.................. go!

Good Luck

Barry

Good point!

If Becky only wants to see the place there must be some photos around, that together with a bottle of Bordeaux red (2001), some brie in the comfort of Haslar!

This sounds like a bit of a slog, but not nearly as bad as fighting your way to Cherbourg in mid-September to get drunk with a bunch of weirdoes you have met on the internet! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Fecamp is nothing special; I'd give it a miss. The Yurt rental looks like a barrel of laughs...........
