Hi! So I’ve picked up a free boat from a farm, it’s an old sailboat with a 18ft length and it had a 3ft 6 keel that I cut down to 1ft (I’m not going to sail it or put a sail up at all)

I’ve scrubbed it up massively so it’s looking a lot cleaner, and I need help with a few things.

1) The ‘rub rail’ is completely rotted and worn so I’ve pulled most of it off. Cheap replacement ideas? I was considering rope, also what do I do with the old nails still stuck in and rusted?

2) The metal rails on the edges have a plastic cover which has completely degraded and snap right off. What is a good replacement for them?

3) What is the best way to get the metal bow rails looking new and shiny again?

I’ll probably need some more help on this... here’s a pic (also if you can identify the make and model of the sailboat that’d be brilliant

Thanks!!

Are they nails or remains of screws? Do they attach the deck to the hull? Old rope would be cheapest option I suspect, not sure how you attach it though. If it was thick you could leave the rusty nails in place?
Don't follow what you mean about edges.
Some sort of automotive chrome polish even autoglym?
