Advice for fitting stanchions

I would appreciate some advice please as to an effective way to secure stanchions into deck mounts which (annoyingly) have no grub screws to do the job. The stanchions are 25mm in diameter, 60cm in length.

The mounts are (also annoyingly) already fitted to Pantagruel so it is a bit late to replace them with another type.

Drill a suitable size hole through stanchion and mount and use split pin?

This is how ours are fitted. I replaced the split pins with P? R? clips which makes it far easier to dismount them when necessary.
