Is it just my computer or does the animated Mercedes advert on this site today make your mouse go sticky/freeze/move jerkily??

Only seems to happen when the advert attacks.....

Me too!

As I type this, the blooming advert has swelled up to cover about 1/4 of the screen!

I don't normally have any bother with these, but for most of this evening, the mouse hasn't worked first click anywhere near this ad.

What Mercedes advert? People have complained about ads in the past but i never see them. What am i doing wrong?

No, forums page:

Under the YBW.COM logo, with the full width dark blue stripe, incorporating the "Search YBW.COM", etc; and above the dark blue banner with "Welcome misterg"..."main index | Search | Active topics| Who's online", etc. there is a space.

In the left of the space there's a link to "Read the latest news from our sites..", and opposite this is a small animated graphic advert for Mercedes Benz. If you hover the mouse over this ad, it slowly expands (which is fair enough), but it also seems to have laid claim to mouse rights in its expanded area, even when it isn't expanded. For example, if I click on "Main Index", nothing happens, but the animation in the ad speeds up. If I move the mouse away, then back again, I can click on "Main Index", and it works OK. The ad doesn't change size through this, and I never let the mouse pointer touch the ad.

I'm using firefox, and this is the first time I've ever had this problem. Most irritating.

Same here, Firefox was unusable but when I switched to Konqueror it was fine.

I've noticed this on some Yahoo news items too, it seems to a a Flash thing

Well where's your problem? I gave you the remedy. Go to the link I gave for Adblock. It will block all flash (or whatever you choose) ads on a page.

Hi all,

We're not supposed to have the scrolling ads in the forums so we're sorting it as we speak. As for the stickiness I'll look into that as well.

Cheers,
Dan

Errm, no it doesn't. I had adblock installed and go the ad. Had to install flshblock as well. That did the trick. 'm using Linux rather than Windoze - don't know if thats significant. First time adblock has failed me.

I generally don't experience problems like this, so assume that something is broken on the site (Dan's message seems to confirm this?). Once irritation exceeds inertia, then I'll risk upsetting the delicate equilibrium that is a fully functioning PC and install a blocker /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (Thanks for the recommendation).

Well many thanks lake sailor for the links

my enjoyment of telegraph has long been ruined by the excessive number of ads slowing my machine to a crawl if more than a few pages were open at once.

Further to my post re. Ad Muncher I am amazed how well it works. All the ads video clips, sound etc on the PBO home page are removed and the pages load almost instantly. Problem is after 30 days I will have to pay for it, and I suspect I shall not want to go back to how it was !

I've got the Mercedes add since a long time, but didn't care, as it was not invasive ... until a few days ago, when it started to mask a good part of my screen.

I just added the following "filter" to my Adblock Plus v 0.7.5.1

http://m.tangozebra.com/00013127/4MATIC468x60expandable/468x60_A.swf
... and gone is the whole annoyance.

Linux Mandriva 2006,
Firefox 2.0

Hope this helps.

Paul

Useful advert, thought why do I see it, have Zone Alarm, check settings, it had updated itself the other day and turned adblocker off.
My thanks to Merc for pointing it out.
