I haven't been here for a while, but now I find that half of the screen is covered with ads. Whats that all about then? And how do I get rid of the flippin things?
just trial installed free adblockplus for firefox http://adblockplus.org/en/firefox and compared the performance with a non blocked MS-Explorer version of ybw.com and facebook and the difference is quite astonishing. I'll be adding it to the Android tablet later to reduce all those annoying bandwidth sucking advertisements. What and awesome app !They'll be back. It comes and goes.
Adblocker is being installed by a number of people.
The result is that instead of IPC seeing an increase in advertising revenue it could be just the opposite.
Previously the banner ads were visible before logging in but now those advertusers are being hit as people equip themeselves against the extended intrusion of ads.

Google have removed the adblock programs from their Android Google Play system as it breaches their policies - imho this is against the ethos of an open Internet but totally understandable since if all ads get blocked to every device then Google will lose a shed load of money. The bottom line here for us sailors is that bandwidth is a premium commodity and having dozens of stupid video ads every time I try and download a tiny grib file is not only annoying but is stealing my money - most of us have to pay by the Mb for mobile internet so surely I have the right to stop the ads ? I just set it up on my Android phone too and there's a bit of fiddling to set up the proxy so that all web requests get filtered by the app so this wont suit the less technical users but for those of us for whom its important this is a very cool app. You're right though, YBW and other valuable but free sites will suffer if indeed you believe anyone reads or responds to those ads on purpose, for my part I accidentally click on them from time to time but never use them in earnest, they just waste screen space and bandwidth.another feather in the cap for the web people at YBW
I think they need some advice from people who understand the web
