Advertisers, or lack of them

We have been at sea for 3 months and it was simply too expensive, we were relying on satellite, to log in. Now that we return I recall there were, before we left, negative comments about adverts on the Forum but I note that there are none at all now (am I imagining there were ads, was reaction so negative they were pulled).

If there were ads, why were they pulled. If there are now no ads - who pays for the various forum?

Have I hit an ad-blocker key by accident, or am I just lucky?

The site always has, and still does, show adverts to non-members, people not logged in. Showing adverts in logged in mode seems to be an occasional thing - sometimes they do it for a while, then they stop again. As Sarabande says, the last batch were specifically only during the boat show.
