Advantages of new role

Any progress on the boat yet or too soon to comment?

Yes, it is being mended. Progress has been a little slower than I would have liked, but this was due to the insurer's position which meant I needed time to get the money together to fund the salvage costs and repair costs.

Thanks to a letter drafted by JFM the insurer is now reconsidering my claim, but I'm not 'loosening my belt' financially until I am actually repaid for the invoices I have already paid and get confirmation that the main repair costs will also be covered. I had hoped for something more positive this week but when I sent him an email today asking when I would get an update I received an out of office reply so no news for another week or so.

With luck, this enforced financial austerity will actually reduce the number of years I have to work before semi-retiring by one rather than increasing it by two :D

As far as progress goes I do now have two shiny refurbished turbos which look brand new in boxes sitting on top of the stripped down engines.

The main engine rebuild work will start soon now the parts required have been ordered from Yanmar. I have asked for lots of pictures of the rebuild so that when I come to sell I have visual evidence that no corners were cut and all is well inside, as well as the detailed invoices for the work of course.

That sounds like great news and I hope you get that all important confirmation soon. I can't begin to imagine how I'd have felt under similar circumstances. Good to hear it's all coming together anyway - both repair-wise and claim-wise. I think they were clearly wrong in denying the original claim, but as others have said perhaps that is a semi-standard initial stance? It just goes to show you have to be persistent!

I bet you can't wait for the moment you get back on board and turn the key after relaunch too... :D Any idea on timescales yet?
