I am buying a new boat this summer being delivered to Izola in Slovenia. Does anyone know of good/cheap chandlers in the area? How do prices compare there to internet chandlers in the UK.
I may drive down so I could take neccessary extras like dinghy, outboard, lines, fenders and safety equipment if they are cheaper in the UK.

Roberto is right(ish); it's not always the case, though. For instance, I've just bought a Navman depth sounder at considerably less than I could in the UK.
You'll find plenty of chandlers in Trieste; most Slovenes and Croatians do their shopping here too. Try Motomarine, Adriaboats, Marchigomma... Some are better at, say, electronics, others in plumbing or whatever. PM me with what you're looking for and I'll give you their addresses. We could meet up and I could try to jockey a bit of a discount for you - they're usually amenable! Oh, and try also http://www.pontemagra.com/ for on-line shopping. I got a good deal on a Zodiac and Honda 4-stroke from them. Nautimarket, mentioned by Roberto by the way, have their base and shop near Cervignano (40 mins by car from Trieste).
P.S. Are you keeping your boat in Izola? Koper's cheaper (dunno about marina facilities though) as is Umag! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Many thanks for the replies.

I havn't decided where to keep the boat yet. Probably in Croatia this summer, Split?, then Corfu and the Ionian next year.

You'll find the costs of Croatian (and Slovene and Italian) marinas via my page below. ACI is the main marina company (Split, Dubrovnik and many others, but there are a few independents).
Best of luck!

Hi,

I keep my boat in Marina Izola. The local chandler have resonable price and can deliver almost anything within day or so. In nearby Triste there are many more. Most of the electronic I purchased localy or in Trieste. If you list what you would need we can check the prices and you can decide.

Best regards,

Slavko

Hi,

sorry for late reply. There is one with web as well. They are in Marina Portorose which is 6km from Marina Izola. The web is in English as well. I hope this helps. I am adding a link to sailmaker who can help you with lazy jacks.
