Has anyone found a really durable sticky tape? I have found that many of the 'duck' types have the glues which turn to dust and the tape to rags, when exposed to the ultra violet etc. in the marine environment.

The best I have found is some POLYKEN cloth tape but it has all gone and I can't remember here I bought it.

I've used 3M's "33" tape, which looks like cheap black electrician's tape but is far superior, for covering joins in electrical cables. The trick is to degrease the surface if you can then slightly stretch the tape as you apply it, finish by breaking, not cutting it and smooth down straight away. It does harden with UV exposure, as you'd expect, but unless it's chafed a lot it stays put. It's also good underwater. It's also about 3 or 4 quid a roll. (Farnell item No. 143-078)
A quick look at the catalogue also shows just how many gaffer and duct type cloth tapes there are. I've used gas closure tape with some success, but the thermosetting type looks quite interesting as well.

I use a lot of self amalgamating tape which works well where you dont need the stickiness and is very durable.
Carpet tape is OK but when it fails it leaves an awful sticky mess that will not come off. Sail tape is good as is outdoor selotape.
