Some of the vinyl headlining material has come unstuck from the plywood panels, where it is turned over the edges around hatches. The original dried glue looks like Evostick, which has failed over time, probably due to the heat here in Turkey. Whilst I can buy a local similar glue, is there anything better for sticking a vinyl type fabric to plywood, and surviving in high temperatures?

A water resistant PVA wood glue. Its also water based so no nasty fumes from solvents and its cleaner and easier to use.

If might not stick a plain vinyl but I expect it to stick any with a fabric backing. It certainly works well with the foam backed stuff.

You would have to clean all the old contact adhesive off the ply if you are reusing it.

It is possible to get heat resisting contact adhesives as well if you want to stay with that sort of thing.

Try Hawke House http://hawkehouse.co.uk/

Thanks for that. I am beginning to think of bringing my staple gun and some 6mm stainless staples from home on my next trip. Good idea or not?

It may be the most sensible idea!. I bought some st st staples with that purpose in mind but they don't fit my staple guns.

I used a special glue designed for car headlinings. It was much more expensive than Hawke House stuff, because it could cope with much higher temperatures before starting to melt again.

The foam backing on all my headlining has started giving up so had a horrible challenge of not only sticking it back in place but clearing the foam which had turned to a sticky dust - horrible!! After a really good clean, I used a closed cell foam sold as laminate flooring underlay to replace the foam and aerosol impact adhesive - worked a treat but beware of the fumes!
