It is my intention when we relaunch to leave the boat in the water 'till next summer, drying out and scrubbing off is no problem, the one PITA is changing the saildrive anode, an expensive item.

Whilst the boat is out of the water I have thought of adding an additional anode, a tear drop etc wired into the sail drive to allow an extended life to the standard one. Good idea? If so, how do I wire it in, any thoughts, any cautionary tales?

Worth a try but it will probably need to be wired directly to the saildrive as they are often/sometimes/usually insulated from the engine.

Dont be tempted to wire anything else too it ..... esp seacocks/skin fittings

Why not wire in a hanging anode rather than drilling holes through the bottom of your unsinkable boat? Wire to a bolt on the saildrive side rather than the engine to a fitting at deck level that you can connect your hanging anode to. Various ways of doing this such as stud in the cockpit locker or bolt through the deck. Perhaps not as effective as a hull anode as it will not be so close to the saildrive but will take some of the load of the main anode. success with this method has been reported here several times by others.

Indeed, just to a terminal under a bolt at the top of the saildrive.
