Whilst the boat is out of the water, which is unusual for us over winter 2 years running, I got to think that it may be a good idea to add another anode. What gave me the idea was as I looked through an MG Duff booklet. It suggests adding an additional anode wired internally to the saildrive, presumably taking some of the load off the standard (very expensive) anode bolted behind the prop.

My caution though is because I have heard that poorly placed anodes can do more harm than good.

So could we have a good argument about the pros and cons please?:D

You asked for an argument and didn't get one. Not like this forum surely.
Anyway, my twopennorth - what about a hanging anode to connect when moored up? Ther was some discussion about this not too long ago but maybe time to start an argument; after all there hasn't been one for ages.

Oh yes there has.

No argument it is a reasonable thing to do. It will need to be close to the sail-drive leg to be effective and it will need a good low resistance electrical connection to the leg.

A hanging anode as suggested is an alternative but you wont get it so close.

You may be disappointed with the extent to which either extends the life of the sail-drive anode but at least you have back up, esp in the case of a hull anode, if the sail-drive anode becomes completely depleted.

MG Duffs website is a good source of info on fitting anodes.
