I'm looking to add a charger to the shorepower installation already on my boat. There is a consumer unit with two mcbs - one which feeds a single 240v socket and one which feeds a water heater. I'm unsure which one it would be best to add the charger to - or even whether the existing circuits should go together and the charger be on it's own dedicated circuit.

Is there a best practice for this sort of stuff?

Thanks
James

You dont say what the current ratings of the mcbs are but I imagine they are both too high for the charger to be connected directly without being separately fused. Probably both 16A

An additional socket with a suitable fuse in the plug might be one way forward. Alternatively a fused spur if you prefer to permanently wire the charger to the supply. I think it would be acceptable to daisy chain either from the existing socket, or to connect directly to the mcb. In either case the same current rated cable should be used as for the existing socket.
