I need 12mm, size 1mx.700mm colour brown, or blue which will match top sides ,looking on line over £100+ Do you know some good suppliers please.

We decided to use clear as its lots cheaper. We made a curtain for inside for privacy. When you need light on an overcast day the clear really lets the light in.mvery happy with it. It was very easy to make. The electric plane was useful for cleaning up edges.

Hadlow Marine as already suggested. Also not far away Seaclear Windows in Maidsone http://www.seaclear.co.uk/index.html

Further afield Sunlight Plastics in Waterlooville http://www.sunlightplastics.co.uk/boat-windows-hatches-washboards-screens/

and Project Plastics in Colchester http://www.projectplastics.co.uk/boat-windows.html

Many many other suppliers of acrylic and polycarbonate but the above all list boat windows and should therefore have the sort of colour tints in which you are interested

Most industrial estates seem to have a plastics supplier. ask about.

I laid my wooden washboards down onto newspaper and penned the shape for a template.

I took the template to the local dealer, explained the purpose. I told him I didn't know anything about plastic. Very kindly, he steered me to the most suitable for my needs; clear, UV proof, single sheet, cut and chamfered whilst I waited. And it didn't cost a bomb.

One observation though, it was so clear I'd forget it was there and I'd bang my head on it! I applied small stickers to remind me not to head butt it. 4 years on it has improved with it's wear and tear.

Consider clear, for that rainy day when you want natural light coming in.

Agreed- I'm making my own with clear perspex, from some skip diving. I took the first lower board to offer up and even half transforms the saloon.2016-04-08 20.03.08.jpg

I have found a commercial company in Sittingbourne who can make for £100 plus vat, what I hadn't considered is that you cannot get 12mm thick, the maximum is Five mm,he will laminate three sheets to geather cut to shape and rebate for that money using two 3mm and one 5mm which will give 11mm, he did say the sheets can vary by 1/2mm in thickness. Thank you for replies I will follow up the links you have kindly giving me and report back.

He is misleading you. Of course you can get 12mm thick in one go - although 9mm is more common for washboards. £100 is about right, although of course it varies according to grade and colour, plus your cutting charge. You really only need one cut, a downward 45 degrees across if you want it in two parts. You can clean and polish the edges yourself.

My washboard is 12mm clear. We decided to have it as one piece instead of two. We have a 9inch step over anyway that is a little like the first washboard on many boats. We wanted 12mm for its strength. In my mind 9mm would be too light should a wave land in the cockpit

Tranona, Agree,he will do any cutting in that price, I can polish my own edges, your right there is up to 15mm out there, LIV supplies only in clear £41.60 plus postage, there 5mm brown £42.25. Hadlow up to 12mm in bronze or grey tinted but a 750x500mm single board £147 + postage.Have tried ringing both Sunlight and Project Plastic's no reply have emailed them with details, will report back.

Not if you use polycarbonate rather than acrylic. 12mm of the size the OP is talking about will be very heavy and cumbersome on a relatively small boat like his. I compromised in my old Bav 37 with a 70/30 split so the lower 30% could stay in most of the time with shoot bolts and the 70% still fitted the dedicated stowage space in an aft cabin cut at a down angle and a teak moulding on the upper part over the join when in place. Worked well.

Hi again, update, reply from Project Plastics 1000x 650mm 12mm Tinted £194. Cannot afford that, looks like I'll be taking up Deans quote in Sittingbourne for £100 +vat, he will cut to shape, as he is using three layers laminated, the rebate could be made by leaving a tongue sticking out on the middle top sheet and a recess in the lower middle bottom sheet, that would keep the water out fine.No reply from sunlight, either by phone or email. That's it sorted.
