Hello all,

First post here and straight in with a question :)

Does anyone have any experience of the Achilles 840? I'm off to look at one early next week, so would appreciate any first hand experiences of them.

Many thanks
Rick

I know of one that was sailed from Sardinia to Holland. Only problem was P-bracket fracture so had to sail all the way. Obviously a seaworthy small boat.

I would like to do the Jester Challenge.
My chosen craft would be the Achilles 840. QED.

I did the JAC in 2008 in my Achilles 840 and was very pleased with the performance and security. It took me just under 14 days and I always felt secure. It is not as roomy as some, being quite narrow, but has a lot of storage space.

Apparently designed by Chris? Butler who did around 11,000 miles including several transatlantics in the prototype before going into production, so has a good record in offshore sailing.

PS: PBO did a second hand boat report on the 840 some years back- worth a read

Looks like the engine in the A840 will swing this one. Fresh water cooled and recent, vrs, 03 and salt water. Otherwise, both sound v.good cruisers.

Well - after an early start, 370 miles driven and nearly 8 hours sat in a car, I am now the proud owner of an Achilles 840 :D (Subject to survey on Monday)

Many thanks for your advice!

Achilles 840

Looked for 3 years for a 28' to 30' yacht.
Looked at all sorts.
Our spec was a relatively fast cruiser, safe for coastal, for summer weather sea passages, good living space, decent nav station

Ended up with an Achilles 840, it met our spec and very happy with it.

After buying one you realise how rare they are.

The one I looked at had an excellent survey, so the deal was done! Lovely boat, sails really well.
That 9m one does look very nice, and not a bad price too!

Here's my pretty little lady at her new home in Abersoch:
