Reports of an accident between a water taxi and dinghy with 2 adults and 3 children returning to their boat from the Hinitsa Bay area nr Porto Heli, apparently happened late night, the dinghy had no lights showing. This is unconfirmed, see article here, http://www.tovima.gr/en/article/?aid=526631 a reminder to all of us, when returning from night ashore, make sure you can be seen.

I know I sound as one of the old muppets on the balcony, grumpy grumpy, but accidents happen all the time in that region.
The speed limit in the channel to Porto Cheli is 5 knots.
Jet every day hundreds of mobo`s make the channel their showing of lane, going through full speed. Even the flying dolphins and catamaran ferry´s go flat out.
Police are doing nothing, if you can afford a 30 knot mobo the size of a small school, you can afford some lawyers to. Anyway, annoying one of those influential Greeks could cost the guy with the hat his job.
Anchoring behind Chinitsa island is dangerous, taxi´s slalom behind the island at night to excite their guests coming back from the Spetses bars. What use is a good anchor light with 20 knot taxi´s passing at 10 yards every 5 minutes.
The watertaxi´s get heavier engines each year, some use tuned exhausts, the resonance of a few of those speed devils can be heared for miles. All those poor milionaires in their fancy villa´s living in constant noise pollution.

Why all that speed ? Is it fear for been on the water ?
