Hi all

Any idea what the 'going rate' is for a machine cut & polish in SoF? Boat is 17m and just the hull, no superstructure. I'm trying to decide if I have this done when the boat is lifted next week for new cutless bearings, or maybe wait until next spring when lifted for antifouling, The only quote I have is 1650 euros, but I feel that's pretty steep, but not knowing the local market yet....?

Cheers
Mark

It takes two blokes ,me and a mate approx 2 days to 3M cut and then 2 PAC Dulon polish /wax a 14.5 M ,with "silverline "
Polishing kit
Materials circa € 100 --- Same Hull only --- you feel like you have arms like a gorilla .

You could factor in a boys week -end of April -early May for lift out -antifoul /anodes /hull polish ---and eyeball the bottom --- engines with a mate 1day ,buy the parts online and post on ,or get your MTU Guys to deliver to ship yard s you antifoul .

Or pay S O F rates ____ my. Extra fight bil for my mate was £70 rtn ----- so no brainier for me .

But previously pre 12 week hols , a week off was expensive ----- you reduce costs to 1/3 --- going the DIY route -and remember ,-boys trip

The price is 2 1/2 or 3 days two blokes + materials say outside € 150 for a 17 M .

Btw it's worth it -----every Y IMHO

Does that quote inc lift out , block off , ( how many days ? ) and lift in
You have not made it clear ?
That's gona be near est € 800-1000 as well or inc ??

Thanks Porto - I am assuming that the quote excludes the lift & block / relaunch, although I'm paying for a lift for the cutless bearings already.

I am tempted to do it myself - time off isn't a problem, but not in this heat, so I would wait until the spring if I was doing it myself, with a lightweight rotary machine (although nothing is lightweight after holding it on a vertical surface for more than 20 minutes!)

Feels slightly pricey but not crazy. I paid 3.5k euros plus vat for a sq 78 hull and superstructure and a layer of nano tech polish applied. That doesn't include the lift out etc which I was doing anyway. I user Bleumer in villeneuve loubet between Nice and Antibes.
Remember that all the good guys are booked out solid now. You need to book ahead and/or do it in march, if you want the good guys. Loads of second rate people around making a fast buck at this time of year.

Sounds about right. I paid €2000 recently for a hull polish in SoF which was similar to what I paid in Sardinia last year but yes I agree that polishing always seems expensive compared to other services

Just hull and no superstructure ?

Just the hull. The superstructure was extra; I can't remember how much but €1500 sticks in my head. To be fair they did a great job and the boat looks like new. As I said, I dont think the SoF is particularly out of step on costs as I was charged a similar amount in Sardinia.

Good advice, thanks. I think I'll leave it to the spring haul out. Plenty of other things to do before then :)
