Absolute newbie so be gentle please

Still no license yet, so we spent the weekend cleaning and began giving the hull a good polish, by hand as my cordless polisher still hasn't arrived either.

Also had a small renaming ceremony with some new boaty friends we have made already and applied for membership of TWYC.

Hoping we get the license by next weekend and we can finally take her out.

where in Oxford are you? a nice easy slip for your first go is Abingdon Marina, public slip, nice and wide with free parking. I will be there on Saturday with a bright Orange Microplus called Pumpkin :)

I'm in Oxford, but the boat is in Windsor. Once we're used to her a bit we might trailer her upto Abingdon for a weekend at some point.

Abingdon is quite nice and more places to moor that don't charge the earth. Don't know if Gary is still there but he's quite a decent chap too. We had problems with drunks using our boat as a toilet and cutting the ropes many years ago in Abingdon itself though but there is a risk of that in most built up area's. Good luck with the new venture. Windsor is OK as well, we've had moorings there too, but its more congested but plenty of places to go, its just different.

We did it, had our first couple of days on the river.

Saturday was spent going up and down between the marina, Boveney and Bray (but didn't venture in) getting used to the boat handling, coming along side and generally enjoying ourselves. At this point problem 1 arose, having just taken over the helm the engine cut out, quick diagnosis, fuel gauge says one thing, tank says another! quick refill from the jenni can but bloody thing wouldn't restart. At this point our knight in shinning rounded the corner, roped us up and bought us back to Windsor.

If he's on here or anyone knows Russ on Capra please pass on thanks and I owe him a drink at some point.

Turned out it was operator error and we hadn't reprimed it correctly.

Sunday was a bit more of an adventure (having filled the tank!) and we took on our first lock at Bray (a big thank you to the team there for helping us through) and Tum Tee Tum'd our way up to Maidenhead before turning around just after the bridge.

We got back to Windsor and reloaded her back onto the trailer successfully by ourselves, so all in all a brilliant first few days.

We have learn't a few things too;
1) Fuel gauges lie
2) The wind can pick up very quickly
3) Take the fenders off before trying to get the boat back on the trailer between the goalposts
4) Move the frame for the canopy before tilting the outboard (Ooops)

And a final thank you to everyone at TWYC for such a lovely warm welcome, a little help when needed and lots of great advice.
